The METU SEG Student Chapter 2017 field trip took place from 6 October to 8 October 2017, with 14 chapter members. The field trip was led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali İmer and Prof. Dr. Erdin Bozkurt. Field trips focused on western Turkey, which in recent years, have emerged as an important metallogenic province. The region lies on the Tethyan Alpine–Himalayan Metallogenic Belt and hosts many significant metallic and non-metallic ore deposits. Most of the recent discoveries in this region are Miocene-aged porphyry and epithermal systems that formed in response to back-arc extension behind the Hellenic Arc.
